Awarded May 22, 2025
ARCS Aviation is proud to announce we have been awarded a Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract with the United States Navy, lasting 30 months with a 12-month option, to continue development of our Battle-Damage Data Recording System (BDDRS) technology. ARCS solution, BDDRS, utilizes extended Reality (XR) and Machine Learning (ML) algorithms and aims to solve issues the Navy faces in contested and remote environments such as INDOPACOM AOR. Our technology integrates ML predictions with AR-captured maintainer observations to inform and enable rapid decision-making for the repair of failures and damages. This includes structural and corrosion damage, as well as the assessment of potential failure. BDDRS is designed to work in remote and harsh environments with limited or no access to communications systems. Partnering with NAVAIR on this complex challenge is a privilege and an exciting opportunity for ARCS!
ARCS Aviation completed a research and development phase that validated the technical feasibility of leveraging its maintenance recording and tagging system to manage aircraft battle damage repair data in contested environments. Through regular collaboration sessions with NAVAIR personnel and independent, related research by ARCS Aviation developers, ARCS determined the critical requirements and needs for a battle damage assessment system prototype. During this recently awarded SBIR Phase II, ARCS will continue prototyping, collect real-world aircraft damage data, and advance the AI, software, and AR capabilities needed for efficient and accurate damage assessment.
The successful award reflects the collective efforts of the ARCS technical experts, business development professionals, and support personnel.
